The first card games where invented by the French in 1387 and in 1440 a rich German printed the first full deck of cards.

Napoleon favorite game was Blackjack or twenty-one which the French developed and today’s modern poker games is believed to have originated from a combination of ancient influences including Persian, Italian, and English games of chance. Further refinements to poker include betting techniques introduced by the French and the concept of bluffing developed by the British.

New betting app for the iphone

May 16th, 2010

There has been a long-running debate about mobile gambling apps. Electronics manufacturers have stayed away from anything casino-related out of fear of the backlash they would receive – until now. In conjunction with Betfair, Apple has released the first ever downloadable gambling application for the iPhone.

“We approached Apple with the proposal and our app, showing it does the KYC and age verification”, says Charles Palmer, dispelling any presumptions that the application may encourage underage gambling.

Currently, the application is only available in the UK and Ireland. If the player is located anywhere else, the phone’s GPS will identify this and block them from placing any bets. This feature was included by Betfair – Apple did not need to request it.

Despite these restrictions, it is a remarkable first step for the mobile gaming industry. Apple has a distinct advantage over other smartphone manufacturers, allowing Betfair to push its limits when designing the app. The iPhone’s touch screen and wide array of user-friendly functions lend itself well to this type of application, giving Betfair the ability to set the precedent for future mobile gaming applications.

With the large population of Apple users in Canada and the United States, gambling applications for the iPhone are sure to be a hit in North America. Until the online gambling laws are clarified, however, Apple is likely to refrain from offering anything similar to North American residents.

Online Casinos going to Canada?

May 9th, 2010

An online gambling expert believes that Canada needs to relax its laws for economic and social reasons.

Pauls Burns is the vice-president of the Canadian Gaming Association and he is convinced that legalising online casino play will help authorities control it, especially in terms of limiting players’ gambling habits and underage play.

Mr Burns claimed that $1 billion (£650m) is currently being spent by Canadians using offshore online casino sites, and that this money would benefit the country’s economy should lawmakers ease the regulations.

“Canadians are spending $1 billion on online gaming and virtually all of that is going to offshore companies,” Mr Burns said at the recent Canadian Gaming Summit in Calgary Alberta.

It could be that the legalisation of online casino use in Canada leads to an increase in the total number of players. This in turn may result in a greater uptake of UK online slots games like Rainbow Riches.

Rainbow Riches is one of the most popular online and offline slots titles in the world, building up a massive fanbase since its inception. The game can now be played by mobile casino players with a separate version available for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Another game which could draw in crowds from abroad is Cleopatra. Just like Rainbow Riches, this brand has become huge worldwide due to its exciting gameplay and exotic Egyptian theme. In a similar fashion to Rainbow Riches, it also has a handheld iteration so players can try their luck at picking up the jackpot on the go.

Minister of sports informs us about changing coming soon!

May 7th, 2010

The law regarding online gambling in the UK is expected to change in the near future, a senior cabinet official has revealed.

According to sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe, the government is looking into revising the current laws in order to “level the playing field” for online casino companies across the UK.

It is thought that the rules around the pastime will be changed to accommodate newer online casino companies looking to establish themselves, while at the same time making it easier for existing firms to promote themselves.

The government last changed online gambling regulation in 2007 in an attempt to stop online casino firms from setting up in countries with tax benefits such as Malta, Gibraltar and the Caribbean.

Online casino players will be familiar with the large amount of great games on offer, and should new laws come into play it could be that more customers flock to gambling websites to play titles like Cleopatra.

Cleopatra is an online slots title based around the legendary Ancient Egyptian queen of the same name. The title is built on a 20-payline system and is adorned with Ancient Egyptian symbols and iconography.

Players can also travel back in time with the online slots title Treasures Of Troy. As you might expect, the action this time is set in Ancient Greece and players have to search far and wide, overcoming all manner of obstacles on their way to finding the beautiful face that launched a thousand ships, Helen Of Troy.

Orange and poker games for the iPhone

May 6th, 2010

A few years ago, mobile phone service providers were the number one suppliers of mobile games. The iPhone, however, is quickly taking over the mobile telephone gaming industry. Traditional mobile simply cannot compete with the iPhone’s high-resolution screen, its touch-screen interface, and its integrated movement sensors, all of which make it a great platform for gaming on-the-go.

Orange, one of the UK’s top mobile operators, is hitting back by offering their own range of iPhone games, which are due out next month. The games will be sold through Apple’s App Store, under the heading Orange iPhone Games.

The line-up will include racing games and other arcade titles, along with poker and blackjack. The casino games, of course, can only be played for fun, and no real wagering is involved. Check out the best reviews of online mobile casino´s here.

We need to amend the gambling legislation!

May 5th, 2010

A new report has claimed that the US could stand to net $22 billion (£14 billion) should authorities decide to lift laws regarding online gambling.

Research collected by H2 has concluded that legalising the pastime could result in benefits to economic growth in addition to creating jobs for US citizens. Furthermore, the report estimated that $42 billion could be gained nationwide by 2015 (with sports betting included).

According to H2 report director Simon Holliday, the findings of the report should be enough to convince US government officials to consider legalisation.

“This study should provide further incentive for the Obama Administration and Congress to act quickly to regulate internet gambling. Furthermore, the current situation where United States players use offshore sites causes billions of dollars to leak out of the economy each year and leaves tens of thousands of players without any onshore regulatory protection,” he said.

Easing the laws around online gambling could result in a greater uptake for casino games. This means that titles such as Kitty Glitter may receive greater exposure. Perhaps US gamblers will be attracted to the game’s slick, chic attitude?

Another game which may pique the attention of US gamers is Super Hoot Loot. This online slots title is based in the woods and so features all manner of animals. For example, there are jolly foxes and clever owls, helping you on your way to picking up a top prize. As is to be expected with online casino games, a whole host of bonus features have also been included, maximising players’ chances to win.
